The most expensive car ever sold
The most expensive car ever sold is the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé.
This car is from 1955 and in 2022 became the most expensive car ever sold. The car was previously owned by Mercedes-Benz and was sold by RM Sotheby’s at the Mercedes-Benz Museum to an anoymous buyer. The car has been sold at this auction for nearly €135 million. All proceeds from the sale, Ola Källenius (director of Mercedes) says, will be used to establish a worldwide " Mercedes- Benz Fund". RM Sotheby's also added that it will aim to provide educational and research scholarships in the areas of environmental science and decarbonisation for yound people.
Only two 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupés were made by Mercedes-Benz ever. A model name comes from the firm’s chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut. They were designed for the world championship in 1956, however they never took part in any competitions. This car has 3.0-litre straight- eight engine which allows it to go at a speed of up to 180 mph which is 300 km/h. The second model (there were only two produced) was used by Rudolf Uhlenhaut himself as a business car and exactly this model is right now in a museum of Mercedes- Benz in Stuttgart
